    rebuilding a heater matrix?

How would one go about working out if a heater is salvagable or even works. I guess wiring is key, but maybe there is a quick test?

    Series 3 GS BTW.

    cheers

There are really only two parts to the heater - the matrix and the fan motor. If the matrix does not leak, and water goes through it, it probably works. If the fan motor works when power is applied (directly to it), it is OK. Problems apart from these are likely to be :-

    1. Wiring problems so fan does not work.
    2. Engine is not getting hot due to bad thermostat
    3. Cold air getting past matrix
    4. Ducts blocked by rats nests etc.
    5. Controls not working due to rusted up cables or disconnected ends.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

If the heater is out of the car run hot water through it in the laundry. Wire up the fan to 12V and see how much of the core gets hot.
