Sounds great. I've done the same trip in a TD5 defender and it was epic. Pretty much all the work you've done on your S3 is on my wish list, so I'll be keen to see how it goes. Also be keen to see how much dust gets![]()

I was trying to decide where to post this and I have settled with here as it's the closest to what I'd call home on AULRO. If there is a reason why this thread should not be here, I'm sure the moderators will help me find where it should be.
This thread is going to cover the trip I will be taking starting Monday. Our 1979 S3 will be travelling alongside an almost new Jeep Cherokee Rubicon 5 door. Hopefully We'll prove that despite the age and technology difference, an old S3 can still go where any modern vehicle dares.
Along the way I'm keen to see any local AULRO members who fancy catching up for some Landy talk and some Jeep bashing in front of my mate.
Here's the schedule:

Along the way I'll be posting updates and photos as well as any hardship or problems we have and how we solve them along the way. Hopefully this will help people in the future decide what is good to take on a long trip, what is not worth taking, etc.

Goodluck Matewe'll be thinking of you and watching with interest.
Can I come?
All the best, TJ. And the Landy looks sensational. Well done.
Hi TJWA!,
If you feel like popping in on the way past Kal, i'll be here! I'll PM you my address and phone number. There is 2 off us here that live on the same street!
James
Before I go, a big thanks has to go out to Wally.Aussie. Without his help and advice there is no way this "dumb Sparky" would have been ready on time.
Thanks mate!![]()
Have a good trip. Assuming your work has been done properly, and you are not overloaded, I would not expect any problems with the vehicle, and there is no doubt that it will outperform the Jeep on this trip. How the relative comfort compares may be another matter!
