    1974 Series III sealants

    Hi,
Anyone know which sealant should be used between the roof and gutter?
Many years ago, I used chalking compound but it has failed so water is getting inside.

My car is painted a pastel green but the top is limestone, I think.
I'm going to replace the firewall, so it's a good time to repaint all the green parts and have all the gal parts cleaned and plated.

What sealant was used between the petrol filler cowl and the body?
It was still flexible, when I removed the cowl.

I would use Selleys Butyl Mastic, it'll stay flexible forever, and cleans up easily.

    Thanks.
I contacted the Sikaflex company, and described what I wanted.
They recommended Sikaflex 529 seam sealer. It's almost a cream colour. I'll have to check it out, perhaps buy a small tube and check the colour.
They don't appear to have anything that is fuel resistant.

I did a search for sealants on a UK LR parts supplier's web site. Amongst their various sealants is Hylamar, which is fuel resistant.
I placed an order through my auto parts shop; they're getting some Permatex hylamar for me. I'll see how it goes.

I'll also check out the Selleys Butyl Mastic; especially the colour.

Many year ago, I got fed up with water running onto me when I went around corners during rainy weather. Time to reseal the roof and gutter.
That time, I used chalking compound but it doesn't remain flexible. Also used pop rivets, knocked out the steel stems and peened the ends over to look like the original rivets, only hollow. This time, I have ordered semi tubular rivets. I might have access to a squeezer for the rivets, otherwise I'll buy one.

Ian, any auto paint suppliers should be able to provide what you want. Dulux Trade Centres used to carry auto paints and supplies and gear, don't know if they still do. Probably more expensive than auto parts shop but perhaps more likely to give you what you need not what they have on the shelf, if you know what I mean.

    cheers

    Thanks Lakey,
    I'll look into it.
My auto shop sells and mixes paint. I'm not sure whether they colour match.
