Brake (pressure) fail switch: fluid leak
Re: 1982 LWD HT 3.9D: dual brake system: Advice much appreciated for a brake fluid leak from the brake (pressure) fail(ure) switch. I observed fluid coming past the switch terminals before & after disconnecting the electrical leads. Checking the workshop manual would indicate that fluid is leaking past at least one shuttle valve seal. Worn seals would seem a bit strange as the shuttle valve doesn't normally operate in regular braking & there's never been a "half" of the dual system situation. Possibly seal deterioration due to age? (Fluid changed to silcone/DOT 5 in early years, periodic overhauls of wheel & master cylinders.) If so, usual new seal repair? Or repalce whole assembly? Thanks in anticipation.

JUst found this one, don;t know if this helps but, mine was leaking too, in through the hole where the terminals connect, the fluid was coming up throught that surround. All I did was screw out the switch clean it up and screw it back in again a bit tighter than it was and it has been fine since. perhaps thats all it needs. Mine had a lot of grunge inside it which didnt help.

Hopefully as above it's an easy fix, if not and you're not fussed about originality I think some Rangie classics have a similar but slightly different failure valve that would probably be an easy swap in? I just rebuilt one of these thingos, was a bit tricky as nobody seems to do a rebuild/seal kit but managed to match the O-rings (i think...) Don't want to name drop but Bearing Wholesalers have a pretty big range. Good luck!!

i plan on fitting a dual line master cylinder/servo system in place of my single line non-servo system, i'll not be bothering to fit the shuttle valve as they're known to be troublesome ....
i'll just take a solid line to the rear flexi and repeat the exercise to the front splitter, no leaks, no erroneous lights reporting a failure and no siezed shuttle..
i don't know the regs out there but here in the U.K. we're only governed by having a minimum brake efficiency (based on the weight of the vehicle i believe), i've already upgraded to 11" single leading shoe brakes (robbed off a salisbury rear axle) so i'm expecting to easily beat our efficiency requirements
