If the coil that blew up said "use with resistor" or "electronic" they WILL blow up if installed where a standard 12v points coil should be. Get a Bosch SU12, not a SU12R. Or a GT40, not a GT40R. You can also use a transformer type GT40T. Again, NOT a GT40RT. To use a resistor coil you must also have an ignition resistor in the circuit.
I would use the SU12 oil filled coil. This will be fine in a series 3. The GT coils will wear the points faster. Points and condenser are mandatory spare parts so keep one of each in the toolbox. Points should be replaced every 10 000km anyway and checked every 5000.

the one was fitted in the car was a ****R, so was for resistor in the circuit? it`s for that who blow?
