    Frustrating issue !!!!

I noticed a thread on ignition issues.
When l purchased by series, lt ran okay but did not rev the engine much, as it had sat for a few years.
In the restoration process, we removed the engine to install a new clutch and to service worn out parts on the engine itself.
After pretty much replacing most engine components, upon starting we were unable to rev the engine without missing, spluttering etc.
Checked the usual suspects with no luck.
A frustrating time to say the least, but after days of investigating we found that ignition was recieving to much current.
Thus the reason why the points were burning out.
We installed a supressor off a old Rangie and that fixed the issue.
The engine runs very well now and with no more issues to report.
Bit of a learning curve, but something for me to remember for the future.
    Cheers Dave

That is probably the condenser on the points. The suppressor is usually on the positive side of the coil and is there only to reduce radio noise. Anyway a condenser failure is common enough so its wise to carry a spare all the time.
A supressor can be used as a replacement for a condenser as I found out one dark night many years ago, it just had to be shifted across to the negative coil post. I doubt that they would last as long as a proper ignition condenser but in a pinch anything is allowed!
