lots of info on the net and in old editions of LRO (that pommie magazine)

try googling "fairey overdrive" (note spelling)

(the name refers to the orig design or manufacturer and it's not the little winged girly thing)

Have a look at this. If you need parts try e bay UK.

It really needs dismantling and taking a good look at the gears/bearings etc to see just where it is worn

not everybody checked the fluid level either in practice

now.... it is good if you have reasonable circlip pliers

providing you have a manufacturer's/workshop manual, its really just a matter of getting the circlips and thrust washers back on in the correct order

if it has been used for overdriving in 1st or 2nd gear expect some wear ... they really should only be used in 4th or at a pinch in 3rd (high range that is)

lister's reference gives a good overview, pm me if you really get stuck - a mate of mine has the manual and I could photocopy the parts pages

if you buy this $16 CD it's all on it + lots more: http://www.davesitshop.com/davesitsh...od&productId=3

Get the references mentioned, and disassemble it to see what is needed. Some of the seals and bearings will be available from your local bearing shop given a sample, and where they can supply this is likely to be the cheapest. For parts other than these, and for bearings and seals they cannot supply, the best place is Rovers Down South as linked - they hold the original tooling. Some parts may be found from time to time on ebay.

Note that Rovers Down South will supply an exchange reconditioned overdrive, and this is likely to be the cheapest option if you pay someone to work on it rather than do it yourself. With no gearbox experience I had no difficulty overhauling mine - although I should have replaced the gears but could not afford it, so it is still noisy.

The overdrive may be used in third or fourth in either high or low range, but should never be used in first, second or reverse. Particularly with a diesel, avoid high powers at low revs in third, and preferably in top as well.

I can recommend Rovers Down South, I had some bits and pieces shipped out at a reasonably price. By the way my overdrive is now for sale as i can't use it with my high speed gearing.

    Cheers

Thanks for all your replies, I will be looking into this very shortly and decide either HRTFC or Fairey O/D repair. I have a 186 Holden motor I guess I would have to take this into account also. Hey can anyone explain how to attach a photo of my Landy on my thread I tried clicking the Attach button no luck..
