    It's never ending!

    Hi all
this morning, going to work, the 4th gear jump out, in this way i lost 3th and 4th gear...
I drove to a gearbox garge, they told, after asked my $2k +, it is unusual, usually you lose 1th and 2th and still have the higt gear; but it`s a landy...
So, it`s the gear box gone?

Sounds like the gearbox garage don't want to touch it, because thats not a reasonable price for a series box rebuild as far as I know. Give a Landy specialist a call.

Whatever has caused the problem, it is a gearbox in and out situation and that is probably at least a day's work in the removal and replacement - then there is the time to strip down the box.

The problem may be a collapsed 3rd/4th synchro assembly and that part is not going to be less than about $150.00 similar price for the layshaft but symptoms are not correct for that failure, unless missing teeth. While you are in there you would want to re-build the whole box correctly, then there is a gasket kit and fluids, along with labour, so $2K may not be too far off the mark.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

the selector has probably just had its lockign screw vibrate out.

bout 3 hours to fix that and you dont need to pull the box just the floorplates and the top of the box.

    remove the floor plates
    remove the transmission tunnel cover
    unbolt the shifter
unbolt the top plate (be careful it has some spring loaded bits under it)

from the top once youve removed the shifter you should be able to see 3 "cups" that make up your shift gates with them all lined up you should be in nuetral. the one on the passangers side of the vehicle controls the 3/4 selector fork.

with the top plate off you will easily see the fork connecting to this rod, if you can move this fork at all on the rod then its missing the retainer bolt which will be in the bottom of the box somewhere. If you cant you can get in with small pry tools and a camera to take photos to paste up in here and the forum can diagnose the box for you.
