    Thanks to you all for you'r replies. This is what I was quoted. R Brake shoes $105 - F brake shoes $121 - F W cyl X 4 $228 - R w cyl X2 $140 - R Brake hose $48 - New U bolts X2 $40 - Labour cost $1260 - GST $194. I still think i'ts B/S.

    Understand your thinking, the same thing happens with house prices in Brisbane and therefore property rental, further out it is cheaper, but closer to the city the prices go through the roof. I guess the rental for a workshop is more per week closer into the city than it is out around the outskirts.

    All up I could get the parts for around 300 delivered (but you have to wait)

    When I did mine I have the wider brakes at the front (stage1) and also I broke some main pipes so I had to get some made (100 bucks) all up including waiting for the pipes to be made it took me 6 hours so at $100 per hour thats 800 bucks so me thinks he abit over board.

    Pm JC down in hobart or ring him and he would tell you straight off the top of his head

    Thanks mate, he did change the suspension bushes, all 10 however point taken, still expensive.

    house prices are acceptable and understood access to transport, shops growth etc are what accounts for the extra cost

    labour is labour changing brake shoes is changing brake shoes you get nothing extra for your money

    rent for the workshop is more expensive yet the increase in population gives a higher turnover of customers hense more income and people getting more work done because they can afford it, i don't believe it's right.

    Point taken, runnig a workshop aint easy, however I asked the mechanic if he wanted I could them for him. He said to leave it to him, ok that was my mistake, just over $300 for me against his $678 od for him to get the same parts, why? Everyone has to make a living but that differece in price is no excuse. As I said I hate having that feeling of being ripped off.

    Depends where he buys from

    I know of a very big parts supplyer in the east and he could not get in coo wee of lrseries where I bought them from.

    For instance pedal pads on ebay are about 20 bucks each but where I buy them its 4 bucks.

    You just have to weight up the pros and cons plus the poor old oz landrover mechanic has to buy in bulk to get a discount but then again 200% mark up is abit rich

    Why? when your lease ramps up another few grand per month, where is that extra money meant to come from? Geographical placement has EVERYTHING to do with it

    Higher turn over also means hiring someone else, wages, super etc, more hassle, more work and the owner can still only perform 8 hrs work in an 8 hr day, so, the labour rate must go up
