Gee, it looks like it's still in great condition Geoff.
We should see it back on the road next week I expect.
It's about time I started a thread on the SIII parked in the garage.
Dad bought it new in 1975, and ran it till his passing in '95. Since then, it has basically just sat in the garage, and, er, leaked oil!
In '84, the original 4cyl 2.25P was swapped out, in favour of a new 4cyl 5-main bearing 2.25D.
Over time, it has been kitted out for long distance trips & camping - with dual 16gal tanks, and a 60W solar panel + aux battery. It has a Fairey overdrive, although the first one was repaired in '78, then got replaced in '83, although the current one was repaired following the last big trip in '93.
It now has a touch over 200k on the clock - as documented in it's Leyland Passport to ServiceThat little book is rather helpful, as, between it and the inserts to the grey workshop manual folder, give a pretty good description of everything ever done. On top of that, pretty much most of the necessary tools are somewhere in the garage (there are more spanners in Whitworth than Metric sizes!).
But that's not to say I'm entirely familiar with them!
Anyway, the plan is to do something about getting it running and back on the road.
I've started making a bit of a list of things... starting with the fail items from the last roadworthy (in '95!), plus other things I've since found amiss, like a leaky radiator.
I've put in some pics from previous trips to get it started.

Nice! good luck with it![]()
Awesome Geoff,
1st job is making enough room to walk around it and between it and the tools comfortably!
looks good get it fixed and maybe you wont have to borrow the defa or discovery![]()
Someone's half-inched bits of your bullbar!
Yeah, not likely... I'll need about that long just to make a clear path out to the street!! I'd take a pic to show, but I'll be there till tomorrow just opening up the roller door.
You can't really see it all that well, but I've actually got cardboard down for crawling underneath it.
That's the plan
Nah, got it, it's sitting by the garage door. Will have to weld it back on at some point. In the meantime, that bit not being there makes it really easy to climb up onto the front![]()
Oh what a lovley looking Landy Geoff
Restore her or him without delay you will love driving it every day just like I do

Mate, nice looking sIII and great photo's too. Mine is a 75 and also had the 'Leyland passport to service' which, after going through 3 previous owners, was a lucky find and shed a bit more light on the history. There was also a first aid booklet recommending you spread butter on burns. Luckily times have changed. Look forward to seeing your refurb.
