pusher fan in front if radiator

Hi all, I've removed my radiator due to over heating problem whilist towing a heavy trailer last camping trip, it was 70% blocked according to repair mob. I'm wandering would an electric pusher fan be of any benefit on the front of radiator as well as the original fan setup? or am I wasting my time? The oil cooler had been disconnected before I bought the Landy as it has a Holden motor in it. Has anyone connected these coolers to a Holden motor? If so how and is it worth doing it. Any comments geatly appreciated,. Ta Eddie.

Do you still have the radiator shroud if so then an electric fan probably wont make much difference but if not then yes it will, dont know about the oil cooler there may be a way to connect them but i think the holden engine holds more oil than the lr engine so might not need it

I guess I have to agree with The Booger because my Holden 186 powered S2A doesn't have a shroud but does have a pusher fan and it keeps the temperature perfect. I think the electric pusher fan might be easier to install than making up a decent shroud. They're quite cheap too - I seem to recall seeing some junk mail with them on special just recently. (Our recycling collection has just been though so I can't dig it out for further information).

Thanks mate, Ithink I'm going the pusher fan route I got 1 sitting around will use it. Hey mate do you run the standard T/ F case? or HRTC? Hows your G/B coping with The 186?. I'm thinking of HRTC or a Roverdrive set up sitting on 90km on the freeway is doing my head in. Ta Eddie.

if you're going an electric pusher fan you may as well unbolt the original fan and throw it in the back.

I have 3.54 diffs. Cruise at 2800rpm is just under 100kph. I use 3000rpm as my change point but it will rev past that. I think I've seen 3,400rpm before a change from 3rd to 4th accelerating up a slight ascent. I still get all the semi's passing me on the Freeway. Doesn't do my head in though - I'm too busy enjoying the drive ... still in the Land Rover ownership honeymoon period??. I guess another factor with mine is the 15" wheels fitted with 31x10.5R15 tyres. These are a smaller diameter than the standard 16" LR wheels so would lower the affect of the diff ratio change. I'm going to try standard LR wheels shortly but I suspect they might lift 1st gear too much to be comfortable on the clutch for starting and slow moving. We'll see.

I've only had the truck since a bit before Christmas but no known problems with the T/F box or G/B. I'm getting pretty practiced at the crunch-less gear changes with 1st and 2nd non-synchro. Quite satisfying to get a downchange from 3rd smoothly. I got pulled over on the Freeway by a previous owner and he mentioned that the gearbox had some work done on 4th gear because it used to jump out of top gear. (Receipts were in the file to say the same thing). He didn't mention anything of the T/F box though, so I assume it's been okay. (No receipts for any T/F box work and there is for changing a fuse so likely no problem).

I am about to buy a donor S2A with original running gear and 2.25 engine. Gives me the option of reverting to standard stuff if I want to in the future, but the 186 seems like a good thing at the moment.

    Cheers

Thanks mate for the usefull info, like you I'm still in the honey moon phase, had mine for about 18months so far. Mine jumps out of G/B and T/F case down very steep decents in low and high range, also on highway when you just come over a rise and ease off the throttle it sometimes jumps out of top gear on over run. Its becomming annoying, looks like I'm going to pull th box out, bad since it was supposed to have been done up by previos owner, got the paperwork that shows over $3500 spent on G/B and headwork. NOT VERY GOOD.

If your going ahead and putting in a thermo fan, make sure you put in one designed for 4WD's. Otherwise, when you go through water, you can kiss it good bye. This is what I was told (And never given it a thought), by a Landrover repairer. As I want to put on into mine as well.
