Parts are hard to get, they won't sit on the highway as well as a 2.25. Only thing I can say about them is they're a very smooth motor and they have tones more torque than the 2.25. Then again after swapping mine for a 202 it's blown the 2.6 out of the water performance wise. You either hate or love the 2.6 and most people just hate.Quote:

Aah! a 6 pot,just a little harder to get a smooth crank balance (3 brg crank) than with a 4 pot, after many years of driving earlier designed motors one tends to get the feel of what revs each individual motor runs at, and one tends to drive it at the sweetest/smoothest spot, but it takes years of experience and they all differ in some way, just ask any truckey, once you get the "feel" of a motor it will last quite a lot longer without trouble.
But, in my younger days I could destroy a good Holden motor in a few hours :( by overrevving it, sounds like that could be what has happened to yours,overrevved and either dropped a valve or snapped a bigend bolt.
when you get it home drop the sump first, and check all the big-end bolts with a socket spanner then try the mains before you lift the head then if the problem is the bottom end you do not have to desturb the top.

I was sitting on the high way @ between 70 and 80 ks. It didnt seem to be working too hard or over reving. It just seemed to be where it was happy. (but it obviously was not happy )Quote:

Sounds like you were sitting on the right sort of speed :) more like the motor was tired, and the long drive was the last straw, if you are carefull removing the sump and gasket, you may be able to reuse the gasket when replacing the sump, a small veggie knife will help if the gasket sticks to either face,then use permatax/repco No3 gasket sealer when replacing (non hardening)

Thanks Chomby. The pannels are really straight. Interior is good, drivers seat needs re-doing, But i am just going to get her going again and drive her as is. I love it.Quote:

That looks like a nice straight and tidy ex military S3 :D and if it still has it's original motor in it, it will have been USED :( as the army drivers were not keen on the thirsty 6cyl and flogged the Bu****y out of them:(
the 4cyl in the Series 2/2a was much better liked by the army drivers and in later years when the 3.9 disel 110's came on to fleet, some drivers tried hard to destroy 6 cyl S3's;)

What uncleho says is true about them flogging there 6cyl rover engines. One of my pistons had a melted ring and I had .020 wear in the bores. Checking your combustion chambers for wear and at least changing your rings would be a good investment (they chew alot of oil at best)Quote:
