requirement for 2 speed heater demister on SIII
Hey
I've had a 1975 SWB series 3 for 5 years now and am looking to swap the firewall with one out of a series 2. I need to know if it can be done if they fit and are there any little obsticles that I might have to deal with? i.e drilling new holes or welding brackets?
Thanks

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
Ok excellent, thankyou.
Depending on the age of the 2A bulkhead, you may also have some small issues with mounting the Series 3 wiper motor and associated bits. Nothing an experienced bodger couldn't get around but I have seen some very rough versions.

Is the 2 speed demister actually a requirement for the series 3? I looked at one as a parts car that was a 1975 model series 3 which appeared to have never had a demister fitted. It had no cables, no heater lines, no cables, no hole in the guard for the inlet and a blanked off section on the dash where the controls would be. I assumed from this that it was an option on the car?
A lot of people blank off their heater core when it fails rather than pull out mountains of dash and replace it. Does this actually go against the standards and make the vehicle an illegal mod?
Yes, but I think the problem with the S2a dash is not so much the material, as the sharp edges.
Interestingly, there was a 87 (I checked the compliance plate) Landcruiser at a sale I was at on Saturday - it had a metal dash, but with a foam shelf along the top edge, a bit similar to the S3. (In fairly good condition, 12months rego, trayback, made $6,000)
