    Front Body Panels Series 3

G'day all you series 3ers I have found some front wing panel damage on my 1974 Series 3 SWB so I have two options.
    1. Repair the panels on the car.
    2. Replace the wing panels.
A friend of mine knows of a 1978 Series 3 LWB Wagon front end that is being scraped both of the wings are in good nick except for some oxidising so would they fit my shorty and is it a big job ?
    Cheer's Alan.

All the panels forward of the back edge of the doors are the same (except for the 4cyl Vs 6cyl firewall).

    There are:
    • 4 bolts between the outer guard and "A" pillar
    • 1 bolt at the back of the top panel.
    • 1 (?2) bolts on the support that mounts the steering column.
    • 3 that bolt to the splash guard to footwell and
    • 4 that hold the front inner panel to the radiator support/grill panel.
There is also the wiring harness connectors to undo!

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

G'day All, They will fit, it could differ in the respect that if the S3 (being wrecked) has a in line brake booster, that will be the difference on the top panel rhs, won't see it with the bonnet closed.
No it's not a big job, under 12 bolts hold each mudguard on, hope thats of some help, the biggest PIA will be getting the 2 splash guards out, nuts n bolts will be seized, cheers Dennis

G'day All, The inside panels can be replaced, but I doubt whether you would be able to get them as a NOS item anymore, and a hell of a lot of work, believe me, I have replaced 2 tub sides and floor sections over the past several years.
I would look for a reasonable tub, it's achieveable and do-able in a weekend if you put your all into it, yes I know there are a lot of bolts to undo etc, but thats a whole lot easier than heaps of 3/16" rivets and 3/16" & 1/4" solid rivets that have to set either by hand or other means, hope that helps and I haven't drowned your enthusiasm, cheers mate Dennis
ps if you find a tub, remember that it's scrap value is approx $100-$120 with all steel removed, one single bolt in scrap aluminium will reduce it to mixed scrap at less than half that price, so that gives you a guide, if you find one, aluminium cans get a better scrap price than L/R panels trust me I know,,.
