Safari roof removal
Today I have tried to remove the safari roof off my 88 station wagon. Took off the 10 outer spacers, then drilled out all the pop rivets. There seems to be stringers running front to back that channel air into the roof top vents. It would seem that they are glued to the outer skin. Can this be right? Has anybody removed the outer skin? I have painted the roof before, but it did not turn out to good. This time I thought I would do a good job and remove the outer skin.I am thinking of just painting it as it is.
Anyone ?

Well I gave up and sprayed it with out taking off the outer skin. The stringers are spot welded, about 30 of them, plus 10 bolts and about 30 pop rivets. That thing was not meant to come off. Put all new pop rivets and stainless steel nuts and bolts back on. Seem strange that on the very few Perenti station wagons that had safari roofs they were made from fibreglass and bolted on.
