    Series 3 Station wagon insurance

    Hi,

I am copping flack from insurance companies. Apparently my 1972 diesel 109 station wagon does not exist! But a 1972 124 diesel tray back does?

Has anyone else got a 1972 diesel 109 station wagon? If so, who do you have third party property insurance with?

The sticking point seems to be that the companies believe that it is modified from 6 cyl petrol (it is not) and they won't touch modified vehicles for third party property. And apparently the combination of awesome diesel power and an extra two doors make the underwriting impossible.

    Cheers,

    Andy

Or Lumley's special vehicle insurance. They insured my 80" at a very reasonable rate.

The diesel wagons were not sold here by Leyland. Wagons were available only in 6 cylinder form. It must be a private import. So no sales record means they do not exist to the insurance fraternity.

    Many thanks so far.

I should also say I had exactly the same problem with my "68 IIB FWC, and I definitely know it was purchased here, and has only had four owners since purchase, two of whom I have spoken to about the vehicle, including the original owner, a local farmer.

    Cheers,

    Andy

I went through NRMA (evil i know) but they were easy, they didn't have my car on their records and it has a modified engine, and they were fine with it and gave me a quote with in the hour, also they were much cheaper than shannons.

I also found NRMA cheaper. I just have "bomb insurance" at the moment but will likely upgrade this year as the amount of work I've done to improve the car would not be covered under TPPDFT. Surely though if you can show the vehicle is original they can't knock it back.

    Andy,
Have you tried getting a letter from Land Rover UK or the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust? They will be able to provide proof that your car has not been modified,

If Brian is correct, it would be far preferable to tell them it was modified than to tell them it is a personal import. (wrt insurance premium).

    Thanks all!!,
I contacted a company that rhymes with "Hey Me", and pointed out the fleet that I have insured with them, and a few other salient points, and, surprise surprise, the problem has somehow gone away, and a note will be put on the policy to effect that vehicle is not as per standard listing and is insured as described.

I am more than happy with this outcome, and will revert to recommending the relevant company as appropriate.

    cheers,

    Andy
