Overdrive selector rod length for 6 cyl chassis

The fairey overdrive selector rod linkage that goes between the lever and the drive itself is cut short for use on a 4 cylinder. How much longer is it for a 6 cylinder? And is welding an extension onto the rod going to be strong enough or am I better off making a whole new one from scratch? I suspect almost as much effort will be required for each. I also need to repair the end that attaches to the drive. Is there a fair bit of room for the linkage, ie if my angles and lengths aren't quite spot on will it be likely to foul on anything?

Does someone have a linkage rod for a 6 cyl that they could measure for me perchance?

The bracket the lever pivots on should have two mounting points for the lever - the distance between these tells you how much you need to lengthen the rod. I'm not sure I can measure it on mine without taking the floor out though. I would make a new one, although extending it should work. There is not a lot of room to play with, so I suspect the length is fairly critical. How about making a new one which has the length adjustable, either by lengthening it with a threaded tube, or having the front pin going to the lever on a threaded bit that has a locknut once the correct length has been determined - and then cut the excess off, although I thing there is clearance to the front.

    Hi mate,

Measured the lever on mine as the gearbox is currently out... got 378 mm overall length of the rod so from the centre of pin to centre of pin it'd be about 360 mm ish.

Did it last night so this is off top of my head but i think you've got a bit of clearance to play with both ends.

    Hope this helps, Jimmy
