Just measured a new bush - a touch over 30mm, or 1 3/16". I would make the tool 29.5mm or even 29mm - it does not want to be too tight a fit in the hole, this applies particularly to the spring eye, which may be a lot more of an interference fit than is the chassis.

On the 88" all the bushes are the same diameter but for some reason I have it in mind that the 109" was different at the front? The kits are different but I am not sure if it is length or diameter. John, can you confirm this?

    Cheers,

As Numpty says, the front chassis bush is longer, but diameter is the same.

    Thanks again guys,

'Olly' is a 84 88', which has the Lwb front axle fitted with the bigger brakes, so I would presume that the bushes are the same as the Swb?
I think that Olly is one of the last leaf sprung Landy's registered new in NZ! Sort of makes him a bit 'special', to me anyway, Mind you, I've been called 'special' by some friends in the past too!!

    ...........
Yes. Changing the brakes will not change the springs. For that matter, the bushes in the actual spring eyes are the same on all Series Landrovers except early Series 1, which had narrower springs - from about 1951 (can't remember when they changed) to 1984.

Very useful that they kept the same part, as it is one that does require replacement from time to time.

    Cheers john

I don't suppose that you have an opinion on parabolis springs in regard to good and bad brands etc?

I have no experience with parabolic springs, so cannot comment on brands.

Worth noting that as similar or greater deflection is needed but with a thicker leaf, the parabolic spring will more easily and frequently approach the elastic limit of the material, so the margin for error in material or heat treatment is less - too hard will result in broken springs, not hard enough will result in sagged springs, with a narrower margin for error than with conventional springs.

This suggests that quality will be more critical, so the difference between OK and best might be more important!
