    Update number 2

Thermostat back in. After warm up, temp gauge showing hotter than before, hovering just under the red. IR gun shows around 65 degrees at top of Radiator, around 55 at the bottom, so radiator is more effective with thermostat in as John suggested. I think these temps are acceptable, normal, so it leads back to the gauge.

I guess I have to pull the dash and check connections on the stabilizer. I have also noted that the needle "flutters" a bit from time to time, and the fuel gauge does at the same time. Indicative of electrical problem??

Top marks to Mssrs Dangermousehouse and JDNSW. Dash board out, connections fiddled with and tightened. Temp now in normal range, even after good solid road test today, 25kms including some good hills.

I guess just because I had fixed this once, I should not have gone straight past it as a cause when symptoms were different. Anyway, all good for the moment. Advise and comments all much appreciated.

    Cheers rj
