Smile Series 3 Rear shock mount info please

    Hi,

Is the lower rear shock mount on the axle welded/attached to the axle? Pictures I have seen in parts catalogues indicate that it probably is.

Is this mount an orderable LR spare part?

Is it possible that an axle mounted shock mount would perhaps be a generic spare orderable outside LR but to fit same?

I am preparing to add shocks to an army half ton (No. 5) trailer I am playing with and have been told that the axle and spring suspension is series LR (I am assuming it's S3).

    Any help appreciated.

    Dave

It is a flange of sorts welded to the diff tube. I would never have thought you would ever need them as a spare part until stripping my latest wreck and the hole was all worn out to about 3x the size in an odd shape.

I imagine to find one would involve ransacking an old diff or making something up. If you are going to custom fit shocks why not use a set of front lower shockie mount plates, they are also the plate under the springs that the U bolts go through. Then just use front shocks or something off the shelf that fits lengthwise.

The above assumes a 109 Landrover - 88 has the shock absorber going to a pin on the axle retaining plate, same as the front.
