    Gearbox to Transfer Case Hose?

An old timer on straddie told me that I should purchase a connector hose from the filler plug on gearbox to same on transfer case, assisting oil flow and transfer between the two. Has anyone tried this, is it worthwhile and any recommendations as to type of hose or supplier/manufacturer would be greatly appreciated. This query is for my Series 3 1975 SWB Landy. Cheers

Er , there should be a seal between them.
When the seal dies oil tends to migrate usually from the transfer case to the gearbox.
The hose just lets it drain back.
I fitted one to my LT95 from the filler plug of the gearbox to the filler plug of the transfer. BUT I got nervous about oil flowing out of the gearbox on steep climbs, so I soldered up the nipple and drilled a tiny 0.25MM hole in the solder.
AFAIK , it worked Ok but the real fix is a new seal.
That is for an LT95 but I think the earlier ones still have a seal.
    Regards Philip A

This relates to an LT95 gearbox/tfrcase combo and not a "normal" (not Stage 1) series3 vehicle.

I've never liked that mod, as it's very obvious that the two boxes run at very different oil levels. In a Series transmission, you can actually change the seal with the unit in place. I have no idea if the Rangie/101 box is the same, but I've been told (hearsay) that LandCruisers (where I've also seen that pipe fitted) require major surgery to rectify.

In short, that pipe is about fixing a symptom, no the problem that causes it.

I get confused by double negatives even if they are in closed brackets!

A SWB 1975 SIII is a normal series three.

LT95 were never used in SWB SIII.

I still don't know if you were replying to Expedite's or PhillipA's post? And if you were saying the recommendation was not appropriate to the SIII 88" Expedite owns.

the tcase to gearbox transfer pipe is a cheapy mod for the lt95 transmission to deal with the mainbox to transfer case box seal leaking.

    ergo.

it is not a normal modification for a series III
    BUT

if your series III is a stage one or has been modded with an lt95 from a rangie/county then it could be aplicable.

I've only ever seen it done once in a RRC, and you have to fill it correctly (from the highest fil plug) which results in one half being overfull. But better maybe than under.
