    Rocky Mountain aluminium door tops

    Hi All,

sorry if this has been asked before but I was interested in knowing if anyone has purchased the Rocky Mountain all aluminium door tops. They are available in Australia through a distributer called Modern Motors in Dungog New South Wales. No I am not connected to this organisation even if it does sound like I am giving them a free kick here on the forum.

They retail for about $560 a pair fully glazed plus shipping, which works out at about another $125 to get them to me in WA. Overall a fairly expensive purchase however the thought of door tops that don't rot is appealing to me.

    Rocky Mountain claim;

"They are a revolutionary solution to the problem of series door tops disintegrating every few years. The picture shows one side but you are buying a pair. These door tops are far superior to the flimsy steel ones originally fitted on the Land Rover. The frames are made of solid extruded aluminium sections welded together and anodised so they will never rot away - you can fit them and forget them. The studs holding the units to the doors are made of stainless steel that will not rust and seize up in the doors, so you can remove these tops any time you like".

Sounds good as I have replaced my tops twice in the last 12 years and do like the thought of not having to do it again.

Posted below is an image. Looking forward to some feedback from anyone who has bit the bullet and fitted them to their Series or opinions on the value for money of these replacements .

    Regards Warrick.

I put series doors on my 110 5 or 6 years ago and put the Rocky Mountain tops on then. Really like them. Both glasses slide like the Army ones so you can open the front glass reach out and adjust the mirror etc.
They use stainless fixings too, The only problem I had was when first installing them , one bolt was not threaded right. Instead of one continuous thread it had a series of annular rings at the right pitch spacing. Looked OK untill you tried to screw the nut on.
I can post a pic later if you like.

    Question

Thanks 123rover50 and THE BOOGER for the feedback and advice. Love to see some images of them in your 110, Booger, and how they are holding up after 5-6 years.

    Regards Warrick

Thanks for going to the trouble of posting the images 123rover50. I like the rubber runners. The whole door top looks like a great improvement over the original. Did you import yours or source them locally?

    Regards Warrick.

Have Rocky Mountain door tops always had stainless steel mounting hardware? I have a pair of alloy door tops with mild steel mounting hardware that has rusted to serviceability-I'd like to know their provenance.

The only other alloy door tops I have seen are these Army ones I have.
They have mild steel fixings but are identified by the sloping glass edge.

The army door tops with the angled sliders, are those on a forward control Land Rover?
