I have a gearbox to overhaul in the not too distant future, so it will be good to hear what you have to say about the quality of the kit.

    Cheers, Mick

I've managed to order the overhaul kit, I ended up phoning them last night.
Payment by PayPal and international bank transfer (at an additional 20GBP), no credit card facility. I ended up getting a colleague to pay because I don't have a PayPal account......

Kit is 80GBP and includes transfer box & gearbox bearings. Freight from the UK is getting expensive, 2 kits plus a few other bits was over 80GBP postage. I checked on the Royal Mail website and it's correct.

The bearings will be no-name brand so I will let you have feedback when I receive the kit. I'd hate to recommend it then everyone complains when they receive theirs......

No delivery yet and the company doesn't return my emails.

Talking to Jim at 4 Wheel Drives today he has the same problem with several of his UK suppliers including some of the big names.

I'll have to phone them and find out what's going on. At the moment I wouldn't be recommending the company involved but watch this space.....

Ashcroft transmissions do rebuild kits. It might be worth sending them an email to see if they'll do them for the series gearboxs.
    Cheers

FWD is where I have bought all my series rebuild bits. (haven't purchased any for several years though).

When I bought mine, FWD carried Genuine T-case intermediate bearings (the only ones worth using IMHO), as well as good quality bearings for the rest. They often have 2-3 different quality of components. I bought a first gear cluster which failed after <10k km due to poor hardness in the base material (under the case hardening). They picked through the others they had to give me the best ones and gave them to me for almost nothing. When I had a 2nd gear sieze on the mainshaft and ruin it, they picked through their spares to find me an as-new (2nd hand) mainshaft for almost nothing (they agreed that a 2nd hand one would be better than new aftermarket).

    rebuild kits

I buy gearbox rebuild kits from Sean ar Roverparts, about $140, none of this no name bearings crap! Check out their website, have prices listed. You will get your parts in a couple of days, not weeks, too.
I have rebuilt about 6 gearboxes using parts sourced from them, with no dramas. And if you do have a problem you dont have to chase overseas.

Sounds very reasonably priced, what brand bearings are used ? Colin

    G'day Colin,

Yep I know what that is like - I bought a Series 3 seat belt from a mob in England. After a couple of months the part had not arrived so I contacted them. They e-mailed back saying they would send a replacement. It has not arrived; and now eBay says they are no longer a registered eBay store. Also no more replies either . I hope you have better luck with your overhaul kits.

    Regards
    Lionel

Tried phoning them last night and they didn't answer the phone.
Maybe they are all at the Olympics ?

Finally the parts have turned up.
They were despatched on 8th August and arrived tonight. The order was placed & transaction completed via PayPal one month earlier !!
Still no replies to emails and they haven't answered the phone for a week or so. A mate in the UK tried and couldn't get them to answer the phone either.

I'll check through the contents and post more details.
Kit comprises all gaskets, bearings, seals, springs etc. for the gearbox & transfer box. Bearings are 'no-name', as expected, but cost was 80GBP plus shipping.

Would I reccomend them ? At this stage no because their customer service is poor but waiting for a reply to my latest email.

Maybe they shut for the Olympics.
They were meant to be at the Billing show which is a big LR event in the UK and it had been cancelled & rescheduled for the weekend just gone. Should I be making excuses for them...........
