    Series 3 Dash Repairs

My Series 3 lower dash is in need of repair/replacement. There are a few rust holes in it.

Can anyone suggest a good way to fix it up or where I can get a replacement?

Mine had rust holes in it some as big as tennis balls..I welded them up with the mig.I was also missing the passengers side bottom corner so made one out of alloy BUT its square not round..I also recovered the top & bottom in new vinel from clarck rubber but i got the 100% UV stuff , Well worth it..

The cars been on the road now for 4 years & parked out on the street in the weather & it still has'nt fadded..

Its not hard to do just take your time.. The recovering was the worst for me & cleaning all the old vinel off the top & filling in all the cracks..When i filled in the cracks i just used foam but did'nt like the end resault so tried that expanding foam that did the trick..

    Hope thats of some help

    Hi Banjo,

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking along those lines myself. My biggest problem is that I suck at welding and don't have a mig. Maybe I will have to call in a favour.

Poor old truck has some rust in the fire wall too looks like I'll have to get that fixed up as well

    SORRY PIC HEAVY

Being on a pension i couldnt aford to buy much for the green one when i built that one so i rebuilt the parts or just made them from scratch. My welding got heaps better by the end ..I had a quick look on here but i didnt start a thread on its build, Only the power steering i do..The tray back im building now was in fairly good shape when i got it.. Although some clown dropped the baulkhead when geting it off & bent the top drivers side (ME)..But it only need minor welding..
This is the baulkhead of the green one it was bad with rust so i just plodded along slowly & finaly got there..

    I got there finaly..

I have about 400 plus pics of the build I can put them on a disc & send them to you or anyone if wanted just PM me..

I have been repairing a chassis and other bits and pieces using a stick welder with 2.0mm rods. You can get the amps nice and low (about 35amps), so I don't have too many "blowout" problems.

Do you find stick welding a good option?

I weld better with me old old stick welder then i do with the mig..But i have been using it for a long time now.Its not adjustable tho so have to weld fast with small rods but for thick stuff its great..I used it doing the power steering on Harrys chassis cause i didnt have any wire for the mig..

That dash panel looks in worse condition than mine! Keen to see how it turns out.

Unfortunately it's my only option for DIY and I don't want to pay for outside help. I think mig or tig would be better but I seem to be coping OK. My welder is an inverter so it seems to give me very accurate adjustment over amp settings.
