    Cool Over the pits!

I'm stumped. I recently acquired an unregistered 1973 Series 3 and am getting it sorted for relicensing in WA. The only thing is I can't make any sense of the ADR's relevant to the vehicle. The compliance plate only says ADR 7 and 8 on it which I find to be brake hoses and safety glass but what other ADR's relate to the model, i.e. seat belts, emmission control etc. I am aware that these Landies are licensed as a commercial vehicle but searching the relevant sites is a minefield!

seatbelts for all seats except sideways facers (fit them anyway, save the argument)

horn, lights, tyres, safety glass, wipers, heater, aim for no leaks, stop in a straight line must do better than 60/40 on brakes/parkbrake test, 2 stage door locks, Structurally sound (no major rust),

hit them and right off of the top of my head you're pretty much covered.

(Im trying to find the online copy of the ADR cheat sheet that has the cross reference chart.)

hey looky, they even made it easier...

Thats the one you need to be complaint with if your vehicle is fitted with any of the items covered (ie if youve added reversing lights or modified something under the scope of these regulations)

    even better check out

Thats the one you want to use to scope out additions, The ADR is in effect for the addition only at the time of fitment (IE if you fit a child seat restraint today you must comply with the latest ADR if it was fitted 10 years ago and you can proove it you only have to comply with that ADR)

Thanks for clarifying the list so comprehensively for me, at least I have something to work on. I've some experience with Land Rovers starting with a Series 1 in UK, then a series 2. Coming to Oz I got into a Rangie for 14 years and currently a Disco 1. I do all my own maintenance so the Series 3 I just picked up is no problem, it's the beaurocracy that's the problem!
    Most grateful for your help.

IME The inspectors won't check the vehicle against ADRs.

They will check that seatbelts are fitted to all seats and that they are in good condition, they will check demister, lights, horn, brakes, and any steering/suspension/wheel bearing play.

The hardest part will be ensuring the vehicle is leak free, the steering has no freeplay and the brakes work well enough.

Thanks for the local (WA) view, I know they do things their own way here in the West! The previous owner paid big bucks to maintain this vehicle, new gearbox and transfer with Fairey O/D by Barbagello, complete engine overhaul, new paint job in Chamonix White, De Luxe bonnet (sorry hood) De luxe seats in front, sound proofing, freewheeliing hubs, stainless sleeved brake cylinders and a Aeroparts capstan winch to name but a few. Sounds as though there isn't much to do, doesn't i! Front cross member is rusted out, but remarkably that's the only rust. Might have been the winch badly fitted with poorly drilled through bolts instead of rivnuts. I'm fabricating a new one in 3mm plate as I have a first class welder in the family!
