    replaced fuel tank

Hi every one ,I am about to replace my leaking fuel tank in my 1977 series 111 cab chasis .I have noticed that my replacement tank has 2 places to attach the fuel line on the top of the tank (under the driver's seat) as well as the fuel gauge connector is in a different place. The holes for the bolts are different with 3 holes at the rear of my replacement not two like the original ,which I'm not really worried about, cos I know I can make it fit.Am concerned about the two fuel connections tho'.Do I have to block one off or run a pipe to somewhere ? Or (hopefully) do nothing and it'll purr like always. Thanks

    Hi

One is a fuel draw into the engine and the other is a fuel return pipe. One will lead to a long pipe inside the tank ( this is the draw to the engine ) and the other will be a shorter pipe inside the tank and that will be the return . If you don't have a fuel return at the moment then block it off

You only need the return port if you have a diesel. Since you seem surprised at the presence of two ports, I assume you have a petrol. If so, use the pickup line from your existing fuel tank (if the new tank doesn't have one) and install it in the port which is at the same (or nearest) location on your new tank. The other port will need to be sealed with a blank and a rubber gasket (if one isn't supplied).
I recently replaced my fuel tank (SIII Petrol) and found that the new tank was slightly shallower and slightly wider than the original. It holds the same amount of fuel (actually a tad more) but I had to make a thicker gasket for the pickup pipe so that it wouldn't sit hard on the bottom of the tank. Just something to watch out for when you install the new tank.
    Cheers, and good luck,

4-Wheel Drives in Victoria get them made, worth giving them a call

    Four Wheel Drives

Alternatively if your tank isn't too bad you could always use a liner system.
Check out post 36 in this thread :-

The biggest problem is cleaning the inside of the tank, easier on a Series 1 because of the size of the filler neck.

Yep, That's right, 4wd in Vic, and it was new- they had it made up for me and rang me to check the type of fittings for the fuel level sender and a couple of other details. Got it in a little over a week.

My s111 with a rover 6 ex mil has a breather tube is that the 3rd pipe on the tank. runs up beside the filler tube then joins about 4 inches from the top supposed to stop air slowing the flow into the tank does a good job of splashing me when its nearly full

Most LR aftermarket suppliers will have the gasket.

I made the fuel pickup and sender gaskets for my Series 1 tank.
Rubberised cork gasket material from SuperCheap, inner & outer diameter cut with scissors and a wad punch the right size for the bolt holes.
