Won't be doing any serious off roading in it, so low low first is not a huge priority. Are the 3.54 CW & pinion sets easy enough to get, and what sort of price do they run to? Could be an easier way to go rather than having to machine the TC.Quote:

I believe that diff ratio is standard fair on the RRC and I think the Stage 1 - so probably easier to just get the complete diffs.
I've put the complete stage one axles (3:54) into my dormobile and kept the overdrive unit. As it has the holden 186 fitted, it has made a huge difference to noise levels and fuel economy is better too :) On hilly, twisty roads it struggles to pull in overdrive, but on the highway it's fine.
I find low range 1st gear is still okay for off roading and I must admit I use the overdrive quite a bit as well when in low range. Another good point with these axles is the bigger front brakes that work well.
I'm about to embark on fitting a 300 tdi defender engine into it, I'm now thinking of fitting an LT77 five speed gearbox mated to the series transfer case using the Ashcroft 5 speed kit. The cost of this is about the same as getting my series III gearbox rebuilt, but I figure the five speed box might be better suited to the extra power and be more reliable.
If you have banjo style diffs then just swap the centre out with RRC or Pre 94 Disco items or for the rear early 110 rear or stage 1 is the go but there getting hard to find

Thanks Adam - so the RRC centre (with 3.54 gearing) will drop straight into the banjo style series III housings? If so, then I'm sorted, as I have a spare front and rear diff for my RRC sitting in the back yard...:)Quote:
