new project - 1974 Dutch camper conversion

Thanks NiteMare, for some reason I can’t seem to be able to find the thank you button that’s supposed to be in the lower right corner of the post.

I installed the replacement boosted brake pedal assembly last weekend. It was an easy job as the firewall only had a plate held in by one rivet covering up the larger hole required for the boosted brake pedal.

However, I had a better look at the brakes lines and they are badly rusted in some areas – looks like they will all need to be replaced. This in effect solves my single/dual line question as all the lines need to be replaced anyway. It looks like I’ll be able to get a set of cunifer lines for a fairly reasonable price. Although cunifer is fitted OEM to a number of European cars, I’m not sure of its legality in Victoria – has anyone had any experience with them? Or would I be better off just getting a decent flaring tool and using bundy tube?

After a few months of buying parts, I finally made a start on the Land Rover this weekend. Doors, wings and bonnet are off, and from here I'm going to paint the bulkhead front chassis rails and door frames with KBS. Topcoat for the bulkhead will be Marine Blue Vapormatic tractor paint, which is on the way from the UK now. I didn't want something too glossy, as I want to blend the bulkhead in with the existing paintwork.

With the front panels off, it will hopefully be easier to replumb the brake lines - I've obtained all the bits for 6 cylinder front drums and will use a Defender 300TDI pedal tower and master cylinder. This will leave my front drum backing plates spare. I've read that they can be swapped left to right and put on the back make them twin trailing shoe and improve breaking in reverse - any ideas on whether this would reduce braking going forwards?

There are plenty of peugeot 504 diesels lying about...the vac pump is at least rebuildable, too:)

Thanks JC, after looking for quite a while on ebay and trying the local Peugeot wreckers (some of who I know as I also have a Renault 16), I managed to get a NOS rebuildable type one from French ebay for a reasonable price. Now all I need to do is make up a bracket, but this looks like it should be straightforward.

Got a bit more done over the long weekend. Front chassis rails and bulkhead ready for KBS rust seal paint hopefully next weekend. I've also done a test fitting of the Peugeot brake vacuum pump. Should be fairly straightforward to get the brackets to work.

Paint arrived yesterday and seems to be a very good colour match from the small area I tried on the seat box. Will try brushing it on the bulkhead tomorrow.

Put some paint on the bulkhead this morning. The colour match is really good, much better than the photos suggest. The first coat went on really nicely and spread out so much it was hard to tell it had been brushed. I read on a number of sites that the second coat should be brushed on when the first is just touch dry so that the coats bind together properly. I think this was a mistake for me, as the second coat showed up the brush marks much more and sagged in a few places. All in all though, given I'm not looking for a perfect result and want to blend it in to the panels with original paint, I'd say it's an acceptable outcome. Especially given how easy it was to brush on.
