    Replacement electric Fuel Pump

    Hello Series 3 People,

My original electric fuel pump for my petrol six cylinder Long Wheel base ute has ceased to function.

The parts manual states that the Part Number is 568189 which has apparently been updated to Part number PRC3901.

There is also a Facet electric fuel pump Facet Red Top Fuel Pump Including Unions Part No.: RB7259 which looks similar to the Land Rover part.

Like this Facet pump here FACET ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP | eBay

Has anyone used the Facet electric fuel pump instead of using the Land Rover part? Did the Facet do the job to your satisfaction.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

I replaced the fuel pump on my Landy a few months ago. The fuel pump pumps the fuel from the tank, through one fuel bowl, through the other fuel bowl (twin carbies) and then returns to the tank.
I bought a rebadged Facet (just like the one you linked to) from Autobarn that did not work. I bought two Facets (one just like the one you linked to) from Repco that did not work. I went back to a different Autobarn store, explained my problem, and they ordered in an American fuel pump at almost twice the price of the Facet. It's bloody noisy but works very well. Fuelmiser FPE109.

I have used Facets on other vehicles before with good results. It may work for you.
Find someone at the shop with product knowledge and explain what you want. Fuel flow rate and pressure. What type of fuel system it is. How it operates.

Let us know how you get on.

    G'day Mick,

Gee is sounds like you had truck loads of fun trying to get your fuel situation sorted out . Good to hear that it worked out in the end.

I will look up the Fuelmiser option - if it ran quietly it probably would not blend in with a Series 3 anyway

OMG you were not joking about the cost of Fuelmiser! Two of those and it would be more than what I paid for my Land Rover!

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

From memory, I didn't get much change out of $500.

I've never had much trouble with genuine Facet pumps, however I'm aware they don't have much suction and need to be mounted as low and as far back as possible. I've installed dozens as part of LPG conversions and they don't give trouble. My oldest one I installed in 1983 and it still works when needed. I usually mount these things on rubber isolators with about 6" of flexible hose each side, that stops most of the noise.

Non genuine go for as little as $25 plus postage, you could buy two and have one as a spare.

    G'day bee utey,

A mate of mine who drove rally cars recommended Facet pumps to me so I was surprised with Mick's run of bad luck with them. I am in no hurry so I can look around for options.

I wonder if the country of manufacture has changed regarding where Facet pumps get made now compared to a couple of years ago?

    Kind Regards

I have a little Facet that I bought second hand back in the 90's. It works on the Mini's well. Doesn't pump the volume required for the Landy though.

Looking at the price difference between a possibly working pump and a really good quality pump guaranteed to work, I'd suggest you to get that Facet you linked to. If it didn't work, put it on the shelf. It's not super expensive. If it did work, problem solved for a hundred bucks. Or even $25 if you use the one bee utey linked to.

Manufacturers are working to tight budgets nowdays. My ignition switch died late last year. Well, it had been in use since 1981. I bought a Bearmach replacement. As I fitted it, I didn't like how flimsy and cheap it looked, so the following week I bought an OEM one at four times the price (Graeme at Nth Melbourne now knows I prefer OEM and doesn't offer me anything less).
On the next AULRO trip the Bearmach switch failed. There is an intersection in Wombat that is now known as "Mick's Corner".
Luckily I had the spare OEM switch with me.
