    rover v8 crankshaft break

hi gents ive broken my v8 3.5 crankshaft. not sure what happened but sure ****ed off! i suspect the mains bolts were re used by previous owner in a rebuild. All mains bearings appear to be good but centre main bolts snapped in block. can this block be reused with a new crank and perhaps a stud kit? how is a stud kit better than original bolts? thanks in advance

You may be able to re-use the block but the alignment of the main bearings will probably need checking - speak to a good engine-reconditioner.

Studs eliminate the stretching of the top threads in the hole, which causes the flat face of the object to develop a bump. The stretching can also be eliminated by having the top threads counter-bored away and continue using bolts,

Usually a broken crank, and or broken bolts are due to cap"shuffle" which in turn is caused by the Block registers wearing.

This is an age old RV8 problem and can be exacerbated by incorrect assembly of the caps into the block. they have to be "snapped" into place.

From all I have read it is unwise to use the block again.

    It happens, whatever the reason.

Don't try to reuse the engine, 3.5s can't be all that hard to find.
