    Changing Burstproof Lock Mechanism

I have to change the lock in my series 3 burst proof lock with another lock.

Unfortunately I cannot get the old lock out. As you can see on the new lock there is a pin that holds it in the housing, however there is a hole in the side of the housing that I assumed you could push through to release the pin the get the old lock out. Not currently happening.

So - can someone help me with the clues to get the old lock out.

    Thanks

Usually it's key in, turn and then the release pin lines up with the hole.
Looking at the position of the key it looks a few degrees out of position.

Without a key they cannot be removed unless you drill an additional hole (which I've done before).
Because you have the key I'm guessing its a bit of jiggling to get the barrel in the correct position to press the pin.

Actually I think it is more than a few degrees out - more like 180 degrees as when I look down the hole you do not see the pin but the opposite end

I think I will have to drill a small hole opposite to the one that is there.

No jiggling required - the lock works perfectly - just cannot the sucker out to replace it with one that matched my ignition key.

Thanks for the pointers - looks like exploratory surgery is required.

    Cheers

The lock movement is not through 180 degrees - only about 160 degrees

    Hi Jim,

The catch was in the closed position - no differences where the little lever was how ever you obviously think the position was relevant so I went the opposite way - opened the latch and lever and the planets aligned and I was able to pull the locking mechanism out .

Thanks to you and everyone else for your input - great stuff. For the first time I will have locks on my doors and what more will all work from the one ignition key.

    I appreciate the help.

Hopefully after reading this, I can now remove my lock barrels and put them in the replacement housings I've been trying on and off for months

Well my grand plan to have all the door locks and ignition on the one key has come to nought. I have three of the little locks and they all use a different type of key of which only one is compatible with the ignition key. I have had that one reset to the ignition key but the other two cannot be reset.

At least I have the drivers door lock reset to the ignition and will have to carry a different key for the passenger side .

    Oh well.
