    YouTube Series III crash

    Hello All Series 3 Owners,

I was looking through YouTube to see what Series 3 gear box rebuild clips were out there where I came across this footage of a Series 3 being hit, flipping over and the bloke posts up that he walked away from it unscathed!

    The Landy is being rebuilt

A bright yellow Landy must be so hard to see when checking for traffic....

That's pretty sobering to watch. Looks like the drivers door swung open after impact as it's open and crushed on the road side. Door acting as a stability device to prevent rollover, I must have that option too, mine opens on potholes also ...

Good thing he walked away from it.

    Not as Drastic

    Hello All,

No where near as dramatic as the clip however I am up for some panel repairs myself since this afternoon.

I learnt that one trailer set up for one vehicle without causing any problems does not necessarily equate to the same thing with another vehicle.

When I am towing the trailer with the Commodore the tow bar protrudes past the end of the car. So having a vertically mounted spare tyre on a nice strong bracket means lots of clearance.

Put the same trailer and spare tyre set up on a Series III Land Rover where the tow ball is under the tray then apparently things change. Especially if it is a Series 3 LWB with a canopy so one cannot see the trailer until it comes into view with the side mirrors. Or in my case does not come into view before it jack knifes while reversing. The spare tyre bends the apron below the tail gate just around the same location where the three single signal lamps are. You know brake light, reverse light and indicator. I learnt that the specially built box guard that protects these three lights does a sterling job. No breakages just one box guard to straighten and the vertical apron to bend back square. Nothing that a strategically placed large "G" clamp. Accompanied by the Commodore's tow bar being located close by as an anchor point and a piece of fencing wire and my wire strainers will not fix.

Still it seems like like Rebus is one step forward one step back. All the dramas over getting a simple thing such as a new battery. Admittedly Rebus is now an ace to start with the new battery. I have bought all the brake parts for the required overhaul. A quick job of hooking up the trailer and unloading the spare Series 3 2.25 litre diesel engine for Baldrick and I now have to add a panel beating job onto the list.

Oh well the joys of first drive with a trailer set up for another car and no one around to shout out that things are amiss. What did Forrest Gump say? Sh-t
    happens!

P.S. Back from a short drive and I did some more thinking - I will be using the tractor tomorrow to tow and rearrange the paddock fleet of Land Rovers so they are not so observable from the road. Since the tractor is out of the shed I will use the back hitch point on the slasher as an anchor point to pull Rebus's tail gate apron straight. If I used the Commodore it would have had the force directed down, which would not have been ideal. With the slasher on the three-point-linkage I can raise it and either have a dead horizontal pull or even a higher pulling point. Just like an old mate used to say "Down there for dancing and up there for thinking."

    Kind Regards
    Lionel
