			Spying Suffixes

					Hello All,
I have a couple of Series 3 Land Rovers and they range in age from 1974 to 1980. There is frequent mention in the parts books about there being different "suffixes". The correct part out of a choice of other parts depends upon what "suffix" the vehicle is.
I suspect that there has been a mix of parts within some of my vehicles where previous owners have upgraded things.
What locations on a Series 3 vehicle have the suffix written on it? Is it part of the passenger side rear shackle's upper face? Is it written as part of the engine number and gearbox since these parts are likely to have been replaced over the years?
What year of manufacture or maybe even month of manufacture within a year witness the change from one suffix to another?
What suffixes were there throughout the Series 3 era not including the Stage 1 variants?
Kind Regards
Lionel
