    Canvas Full Hoods

    Hi guys,

Probably there are already some posts about this topic but I think I have entered the phase of "I want to transform the Landie" !

The little ute configuration is great, my wife calls it "cute", but the space you can have access to is a little bit limited.
Also during summer time it gets very very hot and sticky inside the cab... plus on the vinyl seats it is like a party!!

I had looked around, on Ebay, Gumtree, local dealers for some Exmoor trim premium full hood sets but apart from the prohibitive price they don't have much choice if you want to be picky..

BMI have quoted me AUD 1270 for the rail set (it costs $600 in US) and AUD 990 for the full canvas with side windows.

I think the car would look great with the addition of a canvas roof.

Anybody had experience of purchasing such items in Australia?

Some pictures to justify the idea of investing some money on the Landie!

When you fit it out for a soft top (canvas), you have to attach the top rail to the windscreen frame using rivets, the other items just bolt on, but when you want to refit the H/top you will have remove the top rail from the windscreen by drilling/cutting the rivets as this top rail will interfere with the leading edge of the H/top, I'm just not sure whether you were aware of that issue.
I could also sell you the full hoodstick set, but you would need to replace the rubbers on the frames that fit around the door tops, anyway cheers Dennis

You could always fit "Rivnuts"/"Nutserts" along the top leading edge and then when you want the soft top you fit the capping and bolt it up and unbolt in Winter when you want the hard top. Saves drilling out the rivets each change of season.

The other option is to have two windscreens and you change the screen when you change the top.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Dubious value

    Hello again.

Canvas hoods can be procured much more cheaply than those prices you are quoting. Also, if you crack it lucky you might find the hood sticks off a Series 2A military truck.

However, you can find hardtops in wrecking yards and backyards for considerably less than the cost of the canvas roof. For my money stick to what you have plus a tonneau cover.

Also, canvas doesn't last indefinitely and you also need to factor in seatbelt fitment.

    Cheers,

    Hi Dinty,
    Thank you for your message.
if you have the full hoodstick set could you please send me a private message with the price for it?
I'm pretty keen on the Exmoor canvas as you also pay for the quality of the finish and I am not that scared about the rivets becasue as Diana said I could always use the "rivnuts" (I have never heard of them before but I have just discovered how effective they can be!)

    Thanks a lot!
