Looks awesome! Learning a lot for my project.
? ??
Next item is the steering box.
I got an original OS, top bearing from John Richards, UK
Mine has vanished, well the balls ended up in the Box. How should I remove/refit the top- column bearing ???? warm column and 'Freeze' bearing.
I have a kit to add. regards the main shaft, what holds the 'O' ring in place ???? Top up with ep90 ????
Do the gaskets have any effect on end float, or just use 515 sealer ????
Can the box be loosely fitted without fire wall ????
Thanks.

A bit ahead of myself but,
S11A has extractors, with 2 inch outlet.
I spoke to a guy, whom I have known for years, at the local exhaust place. He does the exhaust fitting.
He suggested 2 inch is probable max OD for 2 1/4 petrol.
He can bend up from original sample. What is best at the rear end, silencer wise ????
Is it best to try and keep to original type ????
Those whom have fitted extractors, what changes from original set up ????
Can see a benefit In this climate, not having exhaust manifold, and carby manifold, not connected together.
Do members plate up bottom of carby manifold, or just keep it open ????
Thanks.

Pretty sure I left mine open
Can't help with the top bearing - never had to do it.
The O-ring, I assume you mean the one on the Pitman shaft, has a retainer that looks like a washer and is a tight fit in the housing.
The gasket affects the end float of the pitman shaft, but this is adjustable, so I doubt it matters which you use.
The box can be fitted without the firewall, but don't lean on it, as the bracket it bolts to and the column itself both need the support of the firewall. and it will probably be easier to fit the firewall first.
DONT remove the washer that holds the o ring seal. Its staked in the housing. Use a small hook tool to take the o ring out then fold the new o ring in. That washer is a PITA to get staked back in and is all that holds the o ring in. Trust me i know... still cursing myself for taking it out.
Cheers Rod
Ps have u got a genuine workshop manual? They are great
Thanks Gents.
So Rod, are you saying the 'O' ring sits steering box side of the washer ????
And needs to be hooked out over a fixed washer ???? new one stretched back over the fixed washer.
Thanks.
whitehillbilly
Yes. It can only be removed with the pitman shaft out. Consider it as if the O-ring were in a groove in the housing. (They had to do it like this so you could remove the bush)
John
Thanks John.
Will pull apart and see whats, what.
Just that top Bearing to remove.
