Not sure, how do i check? This Landy has a firewall from a British Land rover but an Australian Chassis.Australian spec vehicles from the early 1960s were built with the diesel 4 row core radiator.
Had a look, the spring mechanism is there and seems to be working.Do you have a coolent recovery cap?
Outflow? All i see is a pipe going in at the top of the overflow cap from the radiator, and another pipe coming from the cap hanging down in the engine bay connected to nothing. You need to check the outflow pipe on your replacement overflow bottle, if you blew a hole in the previous one the outflow was blocked and the system not working correctly as designed.
Take off the radiator cap and have a look inside. The core tubes are offset to each adjacent row, so you should clearly see two rows in a 4 row core and you should be able to partially see the front and rear row of tubes going down.
In a three row core you should be able to see only three rows of tubes going down.
Great (two spring mechanisms)
The one hanging down inside the engine bay connected to nothing is the outflow pipe. This sometimes gets clogged up, particularly if it has been left idle in places where mub-dauber wasps make their nests.
While you're at it, check:
- that all the connections are air-tight (if not this can allow the radiator to re-fill with air instead of coolant)
- the radiator out-flow pipe is firm, (we know its working one way if it blew the bottle), but make sure it doesn't collapse when suction is applied (like when a hot engine is cooling down) this will prevent the radiator re-filling with coolant.
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
