    starting woes

    Hi All
    I purchased a series 3 V8 3.5. 1980
I drove it home , about 10 Km
It was running a bit rough but got me home .
After parking it in drive I started it again next day, ran for a few minutes then started to misfire and cut out, wouldn't start again.
Put new plugs in and it fired once or twice but wouldn't start.
Sprayed some easystart in carb , it ran for a few seconds and cut out.
Has a Holley Carb, which I've re-furbed float chamber , plugs and and points spark.
    Very frustrated !!!!!
    Any suggestions ?? HELP
    P.S. This my first Landy

Is the fuel fresh, had it been standing for long period of time?
Is the fuel clean and are the filters clean, any water in the fuel?
Trial and error...you will just have to check everything.
    Good Luck.

    Cheers, Mick.

Sounds like an ignition issue if the carb is all sorted as you say. Does it have the old Lucas ignition amp? They have a habit of failing. Installing a replacement Bosch BIM024 amp is straightforward and will solve your spark issues. There is a huge thread on here about that.

Oops, just realised you said the points were sparking - scratch that last sentence. Are you getting a spark at the plugs? Coil could be on the way out.

so it was running crook in the ten k's taking it home.
I bet it was starving for fuel...

I bet it is fuel supply.

it doesn't start because it isn't getting fuel,
your easy start stuff proves that it will run, there is no ignition problem.

whip out any filter between the tank and that rotten holley.

check that the fuel is able to flow freely from the tank,
    Safe Travels

Breaking down under load..if it's not leads, cracked dizzy cap or coil, it's most likely starving for fuel.
Blow the fuel line out with a hand pump..if you use a compressor be gentle!
Or put some fresh fuel in 5 litre container and get it syphoning from on top of the wing then connect it direct to the carby and see how it goes.

Then again it could be like the BSA Bantam motorbikes I had when I was a kid!
Fuel, air, compression and spark all at the right time and they still would not go!
Defied the logics of the internal combustion engine!

    Cheers, Mick.

    v8 problems

    Thanks mick
Hope it's not like the Bantams !! I remember them well.
Just had a mechanic look at it , he says it's sparking fine 9new points and condenser]
Petrol in sump so he reckons it's flooding.
will change oil and try again

    Smile Success !!

Got carby stripped and cleaned , changed oil and filter , started almost straight away and sounds like a dream

tried several times since and starts first turn of the key.

Now for stiff and sloppy steering
