"UFO" In the Fuel Line 74 petrol 109

    Hello all,

I cant work out what this is.(square shiny thing in the fuel line) BIL who apparently knows everything tells me its a fuel filter - but I have one of those see through types , just out of shot up above the rocker cover. Would I have two ? Mmmmm.......
I cant find it in the workshop manual or parts catalogue + I've looked on-line. Any help gratefully received as usual.

    regards,

It could be a fuel filter, although I have never seen one like that, or it could be a pressure reducer, but the only reason you would want one of them is if it has a diesel fuel pump that is producing more pressure than the carbie can handle (or it is a non standard carbie that needs a lower pressure), or, perhaps most likely, it is a device, sold at high price to gullible owners, that magnetises or has other magical effects on the fuel.

The filter is the longer of the two fittings screwed into the pump's inlet. If you already have another filter down stream, lose the one on the pump and fit a plain inlet fitting. The electric pump will have been fitted to enable quicker starting after the vehicle has stood for some time, i.e. to fill a carby that's dried out the fuel in the float chamber and the electric pump fills it without using the starter motor. You should have some traceable wiring to it and maybe a switch to turn it on with the ignition on.

Mate , are you leaving the original pump in situ and fitting the facet one as well or are you chopping the original one out?

    cheers,
