    Mirrors

I will have to think about replacing the wing mirrors at some point on the 109 s3. I see a lot of people seem to go for the Defender types with the replacement door hinges - has anyone done anything differently?

    cheers,

    Britax

    Hello from Brisbane.

Prior to the County/Defenders there was another unit that also bolted on to the top door hinge. This was made by Britax and was reasonably common fitment on a lot of later UK Series 3s. My personal view is that this style suits the 3s better than the later mirrors, but that is purely personal choice. I have a set to fit at some time and they will need to have a hole drilled through the top hinge for the attaching bolt.

Having said that, it is common on the Australian trucks to have mounting plates already welded on the windscreen hinges to take the stems for window level mirrors. It can look a bit odd to have these there without the mirrors. Not sure if you have them on your truck.

    Cheers

    Thanks Mate.

I think the defender style looks odd so thought I would cast around for opinions.

These ones. MRC-4583 - they are spring loaded so you can knock them on trees and they'll flick around.

Unlike the defender style they are long enough so you can see the whole mirror on the passenger's side doortop (which have a higher bottom of the glass than Defender)

You also need to get the door hinge with the holes to attach the arm to

Plenty of vendors, but these images are from LR Series.

They were standard on late SIII and Stage 1

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    That's them

    Hello again.

The mirror stalk shown on post #4 from Lots-A-Landies is the one I was referring to. That is the part number and they are readily available from most of the usual UK suspects and, I think, Four Wheel Drives in Melbourne as one local supplier.

    Cheers,

    Beautiful.

They look much better than what I had in mind.

    Thanks for the pictures.

I found the defender style mirror didn't work as well as expected (i think it was britpart). Anyway the aluminum stripped itself out so now my mirrors rattle and move about when i'm on the highway and i have to pull over and tighten them up every now and then.

Another option is the mini truck mirrors like on my series 3 when I got it. I won't be using this style again as I one whack on a tree and they would be history, but they are big buggers and mount solidly, but not everyone's cup of tea.

    Cheers,
I like these - I had them on two of mine but they were a bit munted. I've also had to invest in a new r/h side door top - and I can't bring myself to drill 4 holes in it!
