    That would work - if cut down to required height and a recess added for the bolt head.

    Just had a play at making a buffer at my local woodwork club. I need to perfect the process but it works in principal.

    Firstly the rubber I sourced (from the scrap bin @ Clark Rubber) has a 'filler' in it. This means the cut edges aren't as neat as the top & bottom face.

    The recess for the washer was cut using a Forstner bit (scroll down this link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drill_bit). I couldn't find one the correct size and I really need to buy the washers first so the recess is cut to the correct size.
    I then drilled through the centre with a brad point drill.

    The outside was then cut on a scroll saw. I might try soapy water as a lubricant next time because the rubber grips the blade and lifts off the table unless you press it firmly down while cutting.

    Doing this by eye in poor light conditions resulted in a less than round OD but I might make a small jig so that you pick up on the centre drilling and rotate round this while cutting.
    I wonder if I can then set it up in a lathe and turn the radius on the edge.....

    I'm not offering to mass produce them, just sharing my experience.

    They are thicker than original and slightly smaller diameter but not far off what's needed.

    These are a bit smaller diameter.

    They also have the genuine Series III ones on ebay at 19GBP each (link posted earlier).

    Just looking for a more realistically priced alternative instead of $60 plus freight for the 4 buffers.

    I would check with Brian at Land Vehicle Spares. That's where I got mine from.

    I have seen the ones with the bolt already integrated, and think the price of 49.xx pounds each from the UK is ridiculous.

    G'day Colin,
    Just came across this thread. I have been manufacturing the round buffers for the 2a's for awhile now. I make them out of 6mm neoprene sheet and glue them together with loctite glue. They are 2.00" x 0.50" with the 0.75" hole for the washer. They are an excellent match to the original 336473. I make them up to order. People can PM me if interested. I have attached some pictures of the finished product.

    G'day Ben,
    The buffers I manufacture are $15 each including postage anywhere in AU. I usually sell them as a set of 4 because all 4 are machined to the same size which is 2.00" dia.

    Found an oversize rubber door stop @ Bunnings for $2.65

    Managed to turn it down on a woodwork lathe, finish is OK but the tool blunted easily. Mind you I was using a very old tool rather than a newer HSS one. Needed to turn some timber to make a simple tool to hold the buffer between centres.

    Messy but definitely a low cost option. Just need to cut the recess for the washer then I'll post some photos.
