    Intro and carb question

    Gday guys
So Iv been a member on here for years and have owned 2 d1s previously however this week I took delivery of possibly my favourite vehicle Iv ever owned.

Her name is MANDY she is a very tired series 3 stage 1. Overall minimal rust and pretty straight and very original. But will require a bit of work to get back on the road.
So I have a few questions
First she starts straight away no problem however idles really really high and doesn't like to rev. Iv been told you need to put oil in the carbs? Can anyone shed some more light on this please ie what oil and how much and so on as Iv never worked on early 3.5 before.
Secondly would anyone know the regulations in Victoria in regards to fitting the sideways facing rear seats? And also has anyone got pics of the rear seat arrangement? Were they fitted with seatbelts? So on... Thanks in advance guys.

not sure about the oil , but from the picture , I can confirm that that's definitely an Australian model.

On top of each carby, there is a black knob that unscrews. After you unscrew it, and pull it upwards, a small plunger on a rod attached to the knob will come out. If there's no oil in the pots it will come out easily. There are many different opinions on what type and viscosity of oil to use but I've always used whatever oil I was sticking in the engine and never had issues. A few squirts from an oil can should do - you will feel the plunger meet some resistance when reinstalling it if there is enough in there.

    All the best.

not legal to retrofit side seating, barely legal if it was pre-existing.

the carbs have been mentioned before but the black screw on the top of the carbs and use engine oil although depending on ambient conditions it should be a 5wt or 10wt monograde, ATF also works if the response on the carbies is off,

easy carby to work on, a bit of a pig to adjust and balance but not the worst you will come across, its probably running a little lean and the timing sounds like it might be a touch off.

    have fun with it.

The lighter the oil the quicker the carby response (to a degree) I've used air tool oil without any issues.

    Thanks guys appreciate all info.

I really am stoked with the old girl. I just went out turned the key and she fired straight up. No throttle nothing. So I'm thinking the carbs don't need a rebuild. I'm having time off over Christmas so I'll have a tinker with her. Iv got a lot of electrical issues such as none of it works lol no lights, wipers, horn nothing Bahahaha so I'm sure I'll be busy

Have a look at the brand on the electrics, then ponder the old saying: "Joe Lucas, the prince of darkness" - Of COURSE you have electrical issues

Actually, Lucas stuff isn't too bad and it's the modern replacements out of China you have to be careful about. But the wiring in your Landy is rather geriatric now so becoming on first name terms with your multi-meter is quite likely.

Enjoy your holidays. I'll be bashing and grinding then stripping paint, so I'm not sure which one of us is going to have more fun
