    Not as long as you go bigger rather than smaller. It doesn't carry much current, but going too small will drop the voltage ever so slightly.

    Yes, in practical terms, any wire you are likely to have available will do. Going to a ridiculously thinner wire is going to run into problems with mechanical ruggedness before it causes electrical problems, and similarly going to a heavier wire will only start to be a problem when its weight or rigidity leads to problems with the connections at the ends.

    There is a wide range of satisfactory wire size in this application.
