    Fuel tank sensor part number

    Hi All

    Hello from Brisbane.

    Can't help you with the specific part number - I have the same tank to be fitted as a second that has a quite different sender unit. Somone told me some time back that it was a VDO unit that would not be compatible with the original unit on the other tank wrt using a common fuel gauge. So, I am also looking for another sender.

    To my inexperienced eye the one in your photo looks like a home built hybrid of the original sender and a couple of bits of wire acting as an extension.

    That style of tank was commonly fitted but was not from the factory so they did just as S3ute suggested and extended the factory sender by soldering a bit of wire in the middle. If yours is faulty, then I beleive you will have to do the same thing again. That or get an adjustable aftermarket unit - Macquarrie used to have one - a Murphy unit, but I'm not sure of the resistance range of the Land Rover unit - maybe someone can help out here or I can dig up the sender out of from mine maybe - it's in the garage somewhere, but so is a lot of stuff I can't find...

    As mentioned though, not sure if it's compatable, it's a 230-30 ohm unit. I think the Defender senders are this range, but not sure on Series, but does tank depth is from 100 to 600mm so that will work fine.

    Ok, looks like a series sender is 230 ohms empty, 15 ohms full. With the sender I've linked (and most that I know of) run 30 ohms full, so using the one I've linked may only get your gauge to show between 3/4 and full, but it will read correctly at the empty end.

    Or you could get one of these 90560612 | Sender unit - all SWB and LWB tanks with 6 screw fitting - Paddock Spares

    Not sure from the picture how the two wires lock together (there's probably a couple of crimps) but it should do the job.

    Hello again.

    The sender in my second larger tank is similar in principal (if not design) to unit mentioned in post 3. Keen to get something that is compatible with the existing fuel gauge to allow a common switchover between the two facet pumps and the senders to the guage. That way it is just a single switch over in theory if not practice.

    Keen to know if the one featured on post 5 would do the job.

    Can't see why not (apart from it being **itpart) as it's meant for a Series Land Rover.
    My Series I has a changeover between two tanks , two Facet pumps & two senders. Handy to flick a switch and the gauge shows the level in the tank being used. Installed many years ago by a previous owner.

    As Colin said, I can't see why the Britpart one wouldn't work (at least to start with)

    The one I linked would work, but won't give you full scale deflection of the needle - it would read half way between 3/4 and full when the tank was full.

    You could always email Paddocks - they're easy to get along with - maybe they will know the resistance value of that sender - you're looking for 230 to 18 ohms.
