It is definitely a four cylinder bulkhead.
I will post up some pics of a six cylinder one I have.

A couple of better daytime photos..

Marginally tidier after gutting some old wiring in the dash tray, still a bit left over.

A few things I want to do here:

    - Clean up gauges, I'll be moving these to a Mudstuff aux dash I've ordered.
    - Relay up some aux. switches, for:
    - spots
    - add some hazards/relay
    - interior light switch
    - search/work lamp (picked up an old afv Francis spot)
    - possibly a toggle for a rear work lamp too
    - Clean up surface rust
    - Add some sound proofing, possible a Hardura kit from Exmoor trim, or more of a DIY job.. Either way, keen to get some dynamat or something similar underneath too
    - Probably replace vinyl on dash
    - Replace worn gaitors and door seals

Not necessarily in that order, keen to sort out a variety of electric issues first!

Thanks all, pretty confident it's a 4cyl now!

That makes things easier if I go down the fitted matting route, as most only support 4cyl..

Sounds like you have a plan - it looks nice and neat so far. I'll be interested to see what effect the sound proofing has. I've never driven a 6 cylinder but the 4 cylinder I have is a bit of a screamer above 80k's. I have no sound proofing but my guess is I could achieve a bit of an improvement if I just saw to the seals and tightened everything up a bit.
    cheers,

Never. They really are noisy. They were never designed to be used at sustained highway speeds so the noise issue was never an issue for Land Rover back then.

    Hello EasyJo and Dark,

Following on from Dark's lead, here is the measurement for a six cylinder measurement of the length of floor space, taken from the seat box just under the handbrake and the start fire wall tunnel cover.

Not the best photograph with the flash shining too much. However, it does show the important part of the measurement.

I also found the bag of cable ties I had been looking for and had been unable to find - I knew I had some somewhere!

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

    Productive day..

After incorrectly measuring the wheel nut as 31/32", got a replacement 1" socket.. wheel off, success

My task here was to discover what a few spurious cable from previously mention battery isolator were going to, and to disconnect some old spot relays.

Turns out the battery isolator was going to the secondary battery, and the unknown cables were going to the ammeter, makes sense.

Also disconnected a load of other junk cables, even found some speaker wire connected to ignition for some reason(!)

Here's the collection of junk/defunct wiring I've removed so far:

Also a small, easy cosmetic change, replaced gaiters and knobs.. Though wish I'd remembered the overdrive..

    Much tidier:

Also, found the elusive fuel tap in box of spare parts. (Previous, previous owner had disconnected secondary fuel tank for some reason, I'm assuming to not have to worry about a leak it has). Good news is, the fuel tap is the hardest part to source, so I may connect it up again at some stage..

Also changed over oil, not sure when it was last done, but I noticed it was possibly overfilled. However I put in the recommended amount (of 20w50), 3.5-3.8L and the reading afterwards also claims it's overfilled... not sure if it's a dodgy dipstick.. Anyone else had this on a Holden 186?

Given that the amount is correct it may have either the incorrect dip stick or tube. My 186 always sits exactly on the top mark.
I just measured mine and the stick is 15 inches long from under the flange to the end. The full mark is 1 3/8 from the bottom of the stick and the tube is 5 3/8 inches long. Hope this helps. Your oil volume is correct, so that is the main thing. Cheers, Mick.
