Correct and acknowledged.

Issue for now is to accommodate that with the existing wiring and switch for the single speed wiper set up in my truck. To do that seems to require two standard relays to work the self parking set up and a bit of wire to allow for the second speed power source from a three position switch. In this case preferably a standard rotary switch - hence the earlier question of if and when the Series 3 trucks went to two speed wipers to chase down the part number or look for the right age wreck.

Didn't take long to find the internal wiring of the 2 speed switch I was after. Mystery solved.!!!!!!

Here it is:
Unfortunately the switch, like all Lucas stuff is a special. Find the rotary switch associated with the Lucas 2 speed and an autolecy with this wiring diagram will be able to fit it for you.
Lucas switches are being made again in the UK however as noted expensive.

The Colour codes for the wires are the ones for Mini lucas 2 speed. From my earlier post think the Clubman wiring to switch should also have the +12 volts connected. Found numerous errors in the Mini circuits over the years.

Worth pointing out that it would be possible to emulate the action of this switch with any off/1/2 switch plus relays.

Ah don't you just love LUCAS and they are manufacturing again!!!!OMG

Did a quick search of my Mini parts supplier.
They have both Rocker and Toggle Lucas 2 speed wiper switches for around $36.30. The Rocker has a nice picture on it as well!!

Using the proper switch makes it easier to fault find if it goes wrong.

Note: You can't use AC only type switches on DC because the contacts don't self clean.
DC rated switches have Silver Alloy contacts therefore more expensive.

Hello again from Patancheru.

Reached page 3, so probably timely to assess where we got to from the original question.

A fair summary seems to be:

1. Series 3 Land Rovers did at some time come new with two speed windscreen wipers, the likely date being around 1981.

2. The switch that operated the two speeds was very likely to have been configured to activate the auto park from within the switch (although the auto park mechanism is located at the motor). Appropriate diagrams of the wiring set up have been posted.

3. If you can't find the NOS 2 speed activating rotary switch you can buy a dedicated 2 speed wiper toggle switch that does the same job (I have one of these).

3. It is possible to wire up a 'standard' 3 position (off, power 1, power 2) switch (e.g. headlamp or heater switch) to drive a replacement two speed wiper and have it auto park using a couple of relays.

4. The part number for the later Lucas NOS 2 speed wiper rotary switch remains poorly known.

I can work off this.

OK so I must have a two speed wiper motor then If I got two speeds from the wipers when I was fiddling with the old lamp switch - its not that you can get two speeds from a single speed motor just because of some magic contained in the switch? Mine is a 74 so would have had a replacement wiper motor at some point I guess. Would be good to see some photo's when you get back.

cant you run a dc motor at any speed by controlling the voltage in?????

I don't know. I guess so, I'll go find one and have a fiddle. I have an inkling that its something to do with voltage control and not so much the two speed thing. I'm pursuing it as it might be a way around not having to spend a lot of money on a new two speed motor + the funky high end priced two speed switch. My electrical knowledge is less than limited though so its all guesswork. All I know is I got two speeds off an old lamp switch and am assuming until someone puts me right that the wiper motor on my truck is a one speed job as nothing else seems ever to have been replaced until I got hold of it.

p.s I just stuck an old 9v battery on a dc motor and then two old 9v batteries on it and it def runs faster with the two - maybe on the lamp switch position 1 say gives you 9v and position 2 12v? I'll have to get around to having another go.

A couple of things. The original sales brochure for the SIII indicated 2 speed wipers but they weren't fitted.

The self park mechanism is both in the motor control and the switch. When you switch the wipers off power is supplied to the motor via an extra wire till it gets to the park positon. It wont move past that position till there is power applied to the normal wire/s for the relevant speed.

If you go to a UK vendor Holden Vintage and Classic website in their electrical section they sell toggle switches for 2 speed wipers and there is a wiring diagram in the info on the switch.
