Thanks for all the replies. There are various stains on the ground but I am not sure where from. They have always been there since purchase. The gearbox , transfer box and the base of the gear lever was covered in oily grime. I removed two buckets of dirt from under the passenger side seat base. I'm going to take both wings off and have a good look and a clean up. I've done little with it over the past 3 years and I suspect the previous owner had done even less. Gear changes are exceedingly stiff. Understood with draining the sedimenter and filter and thanks for the tip re the possible loose bits on the injector pump. I'll keep you informed.
cheers,

OK - so I removed the fuel sender and the float is fine and my low level light comes on. Nothing doing re the gauge though. I couldn't get continuity through the cable so I rigged up a separate cable - gauge to sender - but that did nothing either. Poo. Looked at the voltage stabiliser and that didn't appear to be sending anything out. Looks new and nice and clean. Pretty sure the gauge itself is OK as I swapped it for the 109's when I was having overheating issues and it worked in that. I noticed a fuel leak at the spill return pipe union and also the gasket to the tank (same pipe) is leaking. Wrapped some duct tape around the pipe and it seemed to start better but I had had it running for a while previously. I'll try again tomorrow from cold. Need to go chop some wood now so that's it for the day. The electrics are a pig.
cheers,
