Hi Tim, Yup, That was the one, the block drain, the 2 new ones I bought both seem to leak at the point of sensible tightening. Gripped the wing nuts on both sides with a large set of pliers and tightened them up 5 - 10 degrees beyond hand tight, did the trick with no breakages. Thanks for the info on the paint, that engine is looking superb!

I nonchalantly mentioned I was going to pop the young blokes axle swivels in the oven to get the oil out one Sunday afternoon recently. The reaction from the chief oven controller seemed quite emotive, I got the impression it wasn't the best idea I had that day....

So I did it on Monday!!

Got on with a few jobs today, the steering column is in. It's amazing the difference the new steering relay has made, I can spin the steering wheel lock to lock with one hand. A new core plug was put in, was easy to get, LR used the same size plug up to, and including, the TD5. The cooling system has been refilled, and at this stage the coolant seems to be staying in the cooling system. Which is nice :/

Other than that I've been bolting odd bits and pieces on here and there, and the 2/80 air conditioning system has been reinstalled :)

Hi Tim, really enjoyed reading through your thread. This Land Rover is going to look absolutely stunning when you finish it! I have a quick question, what paint are you using for the bodywork and what is the paintcode? I am going to be embarking on a rebuild of a 1964 Series IIA and I think it would look rather good in the same colour as yours. Cheers Jack

Thanks for the kind words Jack. I'm going a bit overboard and getting the car painted in 2 pack. If I were to do it again I would seriously think about doing it myself in Acrylic. Paint code for the limestone is LRC 007.

2 steps forward, 1 step back as they say. Fitted the last piece in the clutch hydraulic system and bled it up with the help of a vacuum bleeder, and the clutch seems to work which is nice :)

I then moved onto the brakes, unfortunately the company that made up the lines that go between the master cylinder and PDWA valve put a double flare on valve end, so I'll need to get them redone.

Next job I got into was fitting the windscreen glass. I've never done this before, and learnt a lesson the hard way. I put a bead of window sealant, (wurth dab off glass sealant), into the corner of the frame, I should have put it in the middle of the flat edge of the frame where the glass sits. Because of this the glass wasn't sitting on a cushion of sealant, and when I tightened the retaining strips it cracked in the corner where there is a slightly raised bit of weld.

So now, full of optimism :/ , I fitted the new floor to the tub, which has had it's first round of treatment at the painters. I'd given it to them with the floor still out so they had easier access for the panel beating they needed to do.

The floor is in less the galv support braces, I'll fit these once the tub is painted.

The hand brake lever also got test fitted. I was advised by the gear box rebuilder to set the adjustment with the lever on the second tooth up, so when the handle is pushed down there is pressure on the linkages to keep the hand brake off. This is to stop the brake from binding when the gearbox moves on its mounts.

Handbrake is fully on about 4 clicks up. (I didn't fit the bolt through the adjuster as the whole lot will have to come off again to fit the seat box).

Also, the dash is all back together, (I'm not 100% happy with how the steering column is fitting, it needs to come up a bit, and rotate clockwise slightly).

With regards to paint, does anyone have the paint code, or know the colour name for the "white" the roof is painted in?

I had some "Ivory White", (LRC 354), made up to test it. Interestingly the code came up as Chamiox (sp?) White in the paint suppliers system, not Ivory White.

It looked very white until I held up some paper next to it, looks about right? Seems to go well with the moss also.

Yes 'ivory white' comes up at Chamoix, and it is 354....I had some mixed up for my ivory white county and that Chamoix recipe is what he used. Slightly off-white.

The supplier is going to send the right one, I had to put a bit towards the freight, but I should be able to recover this by selling the bumper, so if anyone wants a HD Galv Defender bumper, I know where one is! :)

Anyway, it's all off to the painter now, just need to hurry up and wait for it to all change colour.
