Hello all!
I will soon be taking ownership of a '74 SWB and I'm keen to find out what tools you guys can't live with out!
Interested to hear what you carry with you, for quick fixes when things aren't quite going your way!

Yeah, just a small toolbox or ammo bix with some basics. The electrics can be kept running with some wire and electrical tape, although I usually carry a small multi meter and some terminals and a crimper as well. A couple of shifters, pliers, side cutters, selection of screwdrivers, duct tape, rescue tape - the silicone stuff that seals on itself - it's great fir repairing leaks in hoses. Some bars leaks or similar as well - I keep a small tube of something like this that takes up bugger all room.
It all fits in a smallish ammo box.![]()

Add a set of whitworth spanners and sockets . Even as late as my 1976 Australian assembled 109 the whitworths turn up frequently( and randomly).
A bit of fencing wire, decent pliers, gaffer tape.

Degreaser & hand cleaner. The service manual is very handy. A hard copy can be bought or a quick Google search will find an electronic version
Spanners needed will be mainly AF, but a few Whitworth (for example drive flange bolts), and particularly on late ones a few metric, especially as replacements.
Most common spanner sizes are probably 7/16", 1/2", 9/16", 3/4", 13/16". Ring/open end are the most versatile, but a set of sockets is sometimes very useful, as is a set of ratchet ring spanners. Screwdrivers, shifter(s), wheel nut spanner, jack, of course. Spare wire, insulation tape, self vulcanising tape, duct tape, Bars Leaks or similar, Water, brake fluid, engine oil, tie wire, fencing pliers.
You could consider carrying a hub nut spanner - they are pretty cheap, same for vicegrips.
Only spares I would carry for normal road trips is a fan belt. Longer trips , filters, perhaps clutch master and slave cylinders.

On a similar vein, and working on the principle 'He who dies with the most tools wins..." I was hoping to get a clutch alignment tool for the inevitable clutch (or main seal) job.
Not being able to find a scrapper gearbox to butcher i found these good American people, $10 for a locating tool! (Plus P and P mind you)
