    Clutch Issues

I have removed and reinstalled a Holden engine into my 1982 series three long wheel base. Whilst doing that I replaced the clutch, pressure plate, release bearing etc. I have bled the clutch hydraulics and have also adjusted the clutch pedal to ensure that it is at the correct height (140mm off the floor). Having done all this I can only engage reverse gear after a bit of a struggle and some 'grinding'. I then notice that I only have to release the clutch pedal about an inch or so and the clutch engages. Is there any other form of adjusting that I need to do? Is there an adjustment on the slave cylinder at all?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Vince

sounds like a mismatch with the pressure plate.
Was the new pressure plate exactly the same type as the old one ?
How did you bleed the clutch ? did you prime the master cylinder before bolting it on ?
has the pedal got free play before you put your foot on it ?

    Thanks Ian,
The pressure plate was exactly the same as the old one. I didn't remove the master cylinder at all and just bled the clutch with everything in situ. The pedal as about 6-10mm free play on it.
