The SIII I parted out didn't have the heater inlet on the nearside (passenger) wing. The heater took air in from the passenger footwell and delivered it back to the passenger footwell (as per later Series IIa I'm informed).

Found the trim (the vehicle came partly stripped so bit were already in boxes) and.......there were no heater controls in the normal SIII position at the end of the dash. There is a blanking plug in the hole and the two holes where the heater controls mount have never been drilled out.




So, where were the heater controls for an early Series III ???

Ill go looksy as mine is a 72

Yep there is none just the fan switch on the dash
Im guessing it should have a manual heater tap on the motor which there is not on mine

Mine has a push/pull knob (similar to the choke) down low on the dash, left side of steering column. And a 2 speed fan switch over on the right near the other switches on dash.

As my 72 didn't come with a heater I'm hoping to fit one. thanks for the responses so far. As far as I can see their was a tap that was adjustable from inside the cabin so I think the knob like the choke sounds a likely candidate.

Another question I have does the heater have tubes to the demisters and does it blow there as well as to the foot well.

Just sending you a few pictures of the one I parted out.
Was partially stripped when I got it but doesn't look like there were pipes to demisters. Holes were there in the bulkhead but heater looks like it just connected to the footwell.

Mine has demister tubes, the control of that is by closing off the vents to the footwells, which pushes the air up to the windscreen vents. All very high tech!

Mines a very early SIII and I suspect when the first ones were built they cleared out their surplus stock of old SII heaters before fitting the new fangled hi tech SIII ones!

The heater hose came off the back of the block and is controlled by a brass screw valve which gets too hot to adjust when in use, so some planning ahead required. It goes through an SII heater box on the firewall above the transmission case. Hot air blows up the pipes to the windscreen with the doors on the heater shut and if the doors are open your feet get quite a good toasting. The heater water returns to the thermostat elbow via a steel pipe that runs along the off side of the rocker cover.

Where the controls sit in the later models I have a blanking plate in the control cowling.

Hi mate, apologies for the continued delays in getting the heater to you - its in the Hilux, but I never seem to get near your place - I'll drop it to Gromit tomorrow as I think he can get it to you from there.

To add some info to the thread, there are no controls on the heater - just the coolant pipes and the motor wiring, so no idea how or where it was controlled from.
